lyrics

Through the hole in the barbed wire fence
Up the ladder of the radio tower
We bruised our knees on graffiti cement
The city burning with my arms wrapped around her
She says, "We gotta move away from this madness,"
as sirens echo off the canyon wall
I stand below as she repels from the blackness
as if I could really break her fall

And the city glowed, molten lava flow,
that computer chip dipped in the midnight coast
Talking low and sweet while the owls speak
and we take each other to the other side of sleep
Blood moon rising like my tongue on her bottom lip
We were perfectly equipped for the zombie apocalypse

Through the hole in the barbed wire fence
down to the water through the cracks at Jalama
A ukulele and a yellow tent,
beef jerky, avocados, and bananas
The tide was creepin' towards the edge of our sand dune
the wind was whippin' 'gainst our driftwood wall
our shadows dancing by the light of the half moon
our voices singing like a while song

And when the morning rose, we paddled out to float
endless sky above, and endless sea below
Then on the way back, by the railroad tracks,
I saw a bald eagle lifting off a dead tree branch
There were poppies on the hill, "Old Pine" on the tape deck
She turns to me and says "Everything is sacred."
